I Would like to order “The Coulor of Magic” DVD will the UK DVD work in the USA?
Unfortunately, a U.K. DVD will be a region II DVD, and most U.S. DVD players will only play region I. (I know, it’s dumb, but there you are–something to do with distribution rights.)
However, most DVD players can be messed with so they can play DVDs they aren’t supposed to–usually it’s just a matter of pressing the right sequence of buttons.
So this is what I recommend: Either wait for the U.S. DVD, or figure out how to change your DVD player (search online) and then buy the U.K. DVD.
Thank you ever so much but believe me I’m not that talented when it comes to that kind of stuff. I appreciate th e info though.
I dont happen to find a place where i can already preoder this DVD. Amazon.co.uk doesnt have it yet for example. Is october still the release date?
As far as I know, it is. However, like you, I haven’t been able to find pre-order places. I’m guessing your best bet is to keep an eye on the fox websites, pjsm prints, and of course this site :)
I personally plan to order the UK release. It won’t play in my US DVD player, but a variety of programs allow you to make copys that don’t have region encoding. DVD shrink is one such program and is easy to use. You’ll need a DVD write drive and a dual-layer writable DVD to do this, however.
@Jay,
I had no idea you could do that! In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense, I just would never have thought of it on my own.
Who wants this on antiquated DVD!!! I want a Blu Ray release lol!!!
Seriously, happy to hear that this will get a release at last on DVD!
For those of you with Xbox 360’s, it will play PAL R2 dvd’s.
I bought a region free DVD player for about $60. Will play a DVD from any region. Just do an online search for “region fee dvd”. The player is exactly the same as one I can buy at a US store but sold without the region restriction programmed in.
I bookmarked your blog, thanks for sharing this very interesting article
